Cretaceous, Cenomanian- early Turonian, (12b) K2lq

Province:
Xizang (Tibet)

Type Locality and Naming

Himalayan South Belt. The Lengqingre Formation was erected by Wan Xiaoqiao in 1985. The section for the designation is in Lengqingre on the east side of Gamba County, Xizang. The reference section is in Zongshan about 250 m southeast of the Gamba County, Xizang.

Lithology Pattern:
Continental marl

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its base shows a conformable contact with yellow gray silty limestone interbedded with siltstone at the top of the underlying Chaqiela Fm.

Upper contact

It underlies conformably under the Gambacunkou Fm (XiawuchupoMember Fm)

Regional extent

The present formation occurs in the Dongshan and Zongshan areas of Gamba and in Gongzha of the Tingri County. It is persistent in lithology. It is 55.40-214.55 m thick in the Gamba-Tingre area.

Age

The dark shale of the Lengqingre Formation is deposited in the period of Cenomanian- early Turonian. During that time, the Oceanic Anoxic Event (OAE2) occurred. This kind of organic-rich sediments can be correlated worldwide.
